Medications
Before and after surgery, new medications may be prescribed for transplant recipients. Medication schedules and dosing can be confusing with certain medications taken several times a day and others taken only on certain days. Transplant physicians may need to change medications or adjust dosages in order to find the best combination that will bring the patient a maximum benefit with minimal side effects. In order for transplant recipients to better manage their medication, they should select a pharmacy they are comfortable with and a knowledgeable pharmacist to help them understand their medications and manage their medication schedule. A good pharmacist can help explain medication side effects and recommend helpful tools to organize and track medications. Donors, too, may need a medication schedule and should choose a pharmacy they are comfortable with.
