Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Capital Health Announce Agreement
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Capital Health have reached a long-term rate agreement that keeps Capital Health - Mercer Campus in network, and brings Capital Health - Helene Fuld Campus in network for all Horizon BCBSNJ members as of October 1, 2009. Previously, only NJ DIRECT and NJ PLUS members had in-network access to Capital Health - Helene Fuld Campus. Under the terms of the agreement, effective October 1, 2009, all Horizon BCBSNJ members can access Capital Health facilities, including both the Mercer and Helene Fuld campuses, at an in-network level of benefits (as long as prior authorization is obtained when required). Horizon BCBSNJ terminated its hospital contract with Capital Health - Mercer Campus, effective 12:01 a.m., Eastern Time (ET), September 15, 2009. However, Capital Health - Mercer Campus remained in network for all Horizon BCBSNJ members (including NJ DIRECT and NJ PLUS members), as per the four-month transition period, which was to run through January 15, 2010. Horizon BCBSNJ previously had a letter of agreement with Capital Health - Helene Fuld Campus, which made the Helene Fuld Campus an in-network facility for NJ DIRECT and NJ PLUS members only. Horizon BCBSNJ terminated that letter of agreement, effective 12:01 a.m., August 16, 2009. As a result, NJ DIRECT and NJ PLUS members no longer had in-network access to Capital Health - Helene Fuld Campus, beginning August 16, 2009. However, effective October 1, 2009, all Horizon BCBSNJ members can now use Capital Health - Helene Fuld Campus at an in-network level of benefits (as long as prior authorization is obtained when required). Members have a choice of network hospitals throughout New Jersey, and nearby in New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware. Members may search for hospitals participating in the Horizon Hospital Network by visiting using the Provider Directory search tool on this Web site. In case of a medical emergency, members should go to the nearest emergency facility, without worrying about network affiliations. If possible, they should call their physician before going to the emergency facility, or contact their physician as soon as possible after receiving emergency services in order to coordinate follow-up care.
